2022 GMC Canyon
The GMC Canyon provides drivers with some of the capabilities of a full-size truck but without all the bulk. It has a strong frame, offers a choice of engines, and comes in an off-road-ready model. Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Canyon Elevation Standard has 18-inch alloy wheels, a locking tailgate, and comes standard with the CornerStep rear bumper. A step up to the Elevation adds LED fog lights and the EZ Lift tailgate. Choose the AT4 for off-road equipment such as a transfer-case shield, off-road suspension, and special 17-inch wheels with off-road tires. The top-level Canyon is the Denali. It comes with 20-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner, and upgraded exterior trim elements. The new Denali Black Edition adds dark exterior trim, gloss-black 20-inch wheels, black side steps, and gloss-black exhaust tips.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the 2022 Canyon is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 200 horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6-liter V-6 will get you 308 horsepower, and if you have the AT4 or Denali, this engine comes standard. An optional 2.8-liter diesel four-cylinder engine puts out 181 horsepower and gets 369 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
When equipped with the V-6 engine, the Canyon is quick and efficient. Although the diesel engine has less horsepower than the V-6, it has more torque and towing capability. With the diesel, the Canyon can tow up to 7,700 pounds and can carry a 1,605-pound payload. The four-cylinder has the power to pull 3,500 pounds. Drivers planning to take their Canyon over rough terrain should choose the AT4. It has a tow-haul mode and offers a front leveling kit in addition to the standard extras.
Interior
The Canyon can fit up to five people in the Crew Cab models. The entry-level trim has a power-adjustable driver's seat, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel added to the Elevation. The AT4 adds heated front seats and offers the Off-Road Performance Package with all-weather floor liners. The upscale Denali has the features of the lower trims and comes with leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a heated steering wheel.
Every Canyon comes well-equipped with technology features. The base Elevation Standard has a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker sound system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's an 8-inch touch screen in the Denali, which also adds a Bose stereo system, wireless charging, two type-A USB ports, and an SD card insert.
Safety Features
All trims of the Canyon have a rearview camera, a full suite of air bags, and traction and stability control. The Elevation offers the Driver Alert Package with rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking, and the AT4 adds hill-descent control. The Denali is the trim to get if you want standard driver aids. It comes with the features of the Driver Alert Package.
