2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Everything that drivers love about the Chevy Silverado is even better for the 2022 model year. It has updates inside and out, the base engine gains more torque, and the top-level High Country now offers GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system. The 2022 Silverado 1500 also has a new ZR2 trim level, set to be released in spring of 2022, with off-road equipment and capabilities.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Silverado 1500 WT starts the lineup with 17-inch steel wheels, a locking tailgate, and 12 tie-downs in the bed. It also has a capless fuel filter, heated side mirrors for the regular cab, and a rear bumper corner step. Step up to the Custom for the EZ Lift tailgate, LED lighting in the bed, a 120-volt outlet in the bed, and the option for the Trail Boss Package with red recovery hooks and skid plates. Choose the LT for LED headlights or the RST for LED taillights, body-colored bumpers, and LED fog lights.
Up next in the lineup, the LTZ has a power tailgate, high-capacity suspension, and 20-inch wheels. There's also the High Country with 20-inch wheels, chrome side steps, and dual exhaust outlets, and the ZR2 with 33-inch tires and a high-approach front bumper.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the Silverado is now a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. This powertrain received a boost in torque and now gets 420 pound-feet. You can also get a 5.3-liter V-8 or a 6.2-liter V-8 as well as a 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder with 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
When equipped with the diesel engine and the tow package, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds. The turbodiesel is also the most efficient engine. The 2.7-liter can tow up to 9,600 pounds, and the 5.3-liter has the power to pull up to 11,200 pounds.
Interior
Chevy made some big changes in the Silverado's cabin. The LT and above have a newly designed instrument panel to make the cabin feel roomier. These models also have an updated and more functional center console that incorporates a new electronic shift controller. Chevy upgraded the materials in the LT and above and gave the High Country even more premium materials. This high-end model has standard leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim on the center console, and stainless steel speaker grilles.
The updated instrument panel has a 13.4-inch touch screen, and there's a 12.3-inch digital display in front of the driver. The updated infotainment system uses Google voice commands and works with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. Wireless phone charging is also available, and you can get an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
Every Silverado 1500 has a review camera and Chevy Safety Assist. This group of safety systems includes forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, automatic front braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. It also includes a following distance indicator and automatic high beam headlights. For 2022, Super Cruise will be available for the High Country. This hands-free driving system allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel as long as they pay attention to the road.
