2022 Chevrolet Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox is one of the most popular crossovers in the compact market for a reason. This small SUV offers an athletic feel behind the wheel, has the latest infotainment technology, and lots of safety features. For the 2022 model year, the Equinox has a refreshed front end, a new RS model joins the lineup, and the top-level Premier trim receives upgrades in the cabin. Also, for 2022, Chevrolet streamlined the engine lineup.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Equinox LS has 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, and keyless entry. Stepping up to the LT gets you rear privacy glass, chrome and body-colored exterior trim elements, and the option for a power liftgate. The new RS has black-painted 19-inch wheels, roof rails, black exterior trim, and it comes standard with the power liftgate. At the top of the Equinox lineup, the Premier has 18-inch wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, chrome exterior trim elements, fog lights, heated side mirrors, and LED headlights and taillights.
Engine (Power)
Power for every Equinox now comes from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 170 horsepower. It comes standard with front-wheel drive, but you can opt for all-wheel drive with any trim. A six-speed automatic transmission works with the engine.
Performance
Its small footprint makes the Equinox easy to drive and handle. It has a responsive and accurate steering system and a suspension that does an excellent job of smoothing out the road. When equipped with the available hitch, this small SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to five in the Equinox. The cabin has soft-touch surfaces to give it a premium feel, and if you have the LT, it comes with cloth upholstery and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Heated front seats are optional for the LT, and this midlevel trim offers dual-zone automatic climate control. The RS has a black interior with red contrast stitching, a sporty RS shift knob, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Premier adds to the LT with ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and driver's seat memory settings.
The technology features in the Equinox start with a 7-inch touch screen in the LS, which also has a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo system. Bump up to the LT for the optional Infotainment Package with an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, and a 120-volt power outlet, or choose the Premier where these come standard. The Premier also adds a wireless charging pad.
Safety Features
Every Equinox comes standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, automatic braking, and a rear-seat reminder. The LT's optional Confidence and Convenience Package adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors. A high-definition backup camera is an available option with the Infotainment Package for the LT, or you can get the RS or Premier where these options come standard. Stepping up to the Premium gets you the option for adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system.
