The Tacoma's optional engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission pairs with both the Tacoma and Canyon's powerful engines.




Off-Road Capability

Both small pickup trucks come standard with rear-wheel drive with the option to upgrade to all-wheel-drive that comes standard on the GMC Canyon AT4 trim and the Toyota Tacoma TRD and TRD Pro trims. The AT4 comes with an advanced off-road suspension system, hill descent control, and an automatic locking rear differential for driving over tricky off-road terrain. The Tacoma TRD Pro has Bilstein shocks, multi-terrain select, and a locking rear differential.




Towing and Payload

When properly equipped, the GMC Canyon can tow up to 7,700 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,470 pounds. In comparison, the Tacoma has a maximum towing capacity of 6,800 pounds and up to 1,440 pounds payload capacity.
